One answer comes from a family in South Africa, who was forced to bring their uncle’s dead body to the insurance company in order to collect what they were owed.
A video that went viral this week shows Ntombenhle Mhlongo and Thandaza Mtshali dragging the corpse of their uncle into the offices of Old Mutual insurance company in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. They refused to remove the body until the life insurance claim was paid in full.
To clear the body from their office, Old Mutual reluctantly agreed to pay the money they had intentionally delayed for nine days — a delay that had prevented the family from performing important tribal funeral rights for the deceased.
Whether in South Africa or the United States, insurance companies will do just about anything to back out on the promises they’ve made to you and your loved ones. They maximize their profits by happily cashing your premiums and then paying you as little as possible after an accident.
It can sometimes impossible to stop a giant corporation from profiting off your loss. You buy your insurance policy with the promise they’ll take care of you after an accident. But when an accident happens, the insurance company does whatever they can to break that promise.
You deserve What’s Right. And you don’t have to fight that battle alone. At Sam & Ash Injury Law, we make it easy to take that power back from the insurance company and force them to treat you fairly.
