(PUBLISHED JULY 14, 2026)

A recall letter is the one piece of mail you should never toss. It's a manufacturer admitting, in a filing with the federal government, that something it sold you can catch fire, quit steering, or fail to protect you or your kids in a crash.

We read those filings every week so you don't have to. We pull the latest campaigns straight from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ([NHTSA](https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls)) and the automakers themselves, then translate them into plain English - what broke, who's affected, and what you do next. Checking your VIN takes about 30 seconds. A fire in your driveway, or a crash on the freeway, can take a lot more than that.

This week has a single loud theme: fire, and the words "park outside." Kia is telling the owners of 462,869 Tellurides to keep them away from the house for the second time, because the first repair didn't hold. Hyundai and Kia are pulling a small batch of electric SUVs over battery cells that can short and burn. And more than a million Jeep owners are still living under a "park outside" fire warning from earlier this summer. Add a Nissan LEAF recall that can leave a child's car seat improperly secured, and the message is hard to miss.

Whether you commute the I-15 through Las Vegas, sit on the 405 in Orange County, or run the Mt. Rose Highway out of Reno, here's what you need to know.

## This Week's Biggest Recall: 462,869 Kia Tellurides - Park Outside

### 2020-2024 Kia Telluride: Seat Motor Can Overheat and Catch Fire (NHTSA #26V430)

Kia is recalling 462,869 model-year 2020-2024 Telluride SUVs because the front power-seat motor can overheat and start a fire - whether the vehicle is being driven or parked. NHTSA and Kia are both urging owners to park outside and away from homes, garages, and other vehicles until the repair is done. The front power seat motor on the affected vehicles could overheat because of a stuck power seat slide knob, potentially resulting in a fire. ([NHTSA press release](https://www.nhtsa.gov/press-releases/kia-telluride-recall-fire-risk); [Associated Press via Fox34](https://www.fox34.com/2026/07/11/kia-recalls-nearly-463k-telluride-suvs-over-fire-risk/)) [NHTSA](https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2026/RCAK-26V430-5428.pdf)

Here's the part that should bother you: this replaces a 2024 recall (NHTSA #24V407) for the same problem, and the first fix didn't hold. Kia's own tracking found 18 incidents tied to this defect between October 2024 and April 2026, including seven seat fires and 11 cases of melted parts. The company later blamed "sporadic dealer workmanship issues" on some of the earlier repairs. No crashes or injuries have been reported. Tellurides built after May 29, 2024 got a reinforced switch from the factory and aren't included, and manual-seat models are excluded. ([How-To Geek](https://www.howtogeek.com/kia-telluride-seat-fire-recall-july-2026/); [Electrek/Claims Journal](https://www.claimsjournal.com/news/national/2026/07/10/338714.htm)) [NHTSA](https://www.nhtsa.gov/press-releases/kia-telluride-recall-fire-risk)

What to do: Park outside until it's fixed. Dealers will install a new electronic fuse assembly that cuts power if the switch sticks, free of charge. VINs became searchable July 17, 2026; owner letters mail starting August 13, 2026. If you already paid for a related repair, ask about reimbursement. Kia: 1-800-333-4542 (recall SC374). Check your VIN at [NHTSA.gov/recalls](https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls).

## Battery Fire Risk: Hyundai and Kia EVs

### 2023-2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5, 2022-2024 Kia EV6 & 2024 Kia EV9 (NHTSA #26V432 / #26V431)

Hyundai and Kia are recalling a small, specific batch of electric SUVs - six Ioniq 5s, seven EV6s, and one EV9, 14 vehicles in all - because the high-voltage battery cells may contain misaligned electrodes that can short-circuit and cause a fire, parked or driving. The supplier, SK On Co., blames a quality deviation for the problem. The count is tiny, but the hazard isn't: an EV battery fire is hard to extinguish and dangerous to everyone nearby. ([Electrek](https://electrek.co/2026/07/13/hyundai-recalls-whopping-14-ioniq-5-kia-evs/); [Carscoops](https://www.carscoops.com/2026/07/hyundai-kia-battery-fire-recall/); [autoevolution](https://www.autoevolution.com/news/hyundai-and-kia-issue-twin-fire-risk-recalls-over-battery-manufacturing-defect-272763.html)) [FingerLakes1](https://www.fingerlakes1.com/2026/07/14/hyundai-recall-tells-ioniq-5-and-kia-ev-owners-to-park-outside-after-fire-safety-warning/)

What to do: Until the fix, park outside and away from structures, and limit charging to 80%. Dealers will replace the high-voltage battery assembly, free. Kia owner letters mail August 7; Hyundai's by August 31, 2026. Hyundai: 1-855-371-9460. Kia: 1-800-333-4542 (recall SC375). This is a limited campaign, so confirm your specific VIN at [NHTSA.gov/recalls](https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls).

## Child-Safety Recall: The Car Seat May Not Hold

### 2026 Nissan LEAF: Rear Seat Belt May Not Secure a Child Restraint (NHTSA - Nissan recall R26A7)

Nissan is recalling certain 2026 LEAF EVs because the outer rear seat belt automatic-locking retractors can switch off early, which can prevent a child restraint from being locked in tightly. That puts the vehicle out of compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 208, "Occupant Crash Protection." A car seat that isn't held firmly is a car seat that can move in a crash. ([Kelley Blue Book recall list](https://www.kbb.com/recall/))

What to do: If you secure a child seat in the back of a new LEAF, check the install now and contact Nissan. Dealers will replace the rear outboard seat belt assemblies, free. Interim letters mail July 17, 2026, with the final remedy expected by winter 2026. Nissan: 1-800-647-7261 (recall R26A7).

## Rearview, Dashboard & Lighting: When the Screen Goes Dark

### 2018-2020 Honda Odyssey: Rearview Camera May Go Blank (Honda recall HOX)

Still fresh and worth repeating: Honda is recalling 325,588 model-year 2018-2020 Odyssey minivans because water can corrode the rearview-camera circuit board and leave the screen blank in reverse - a real risk on a 17-foot minivan backing out of a driveway. It expands a 2020 recall whose first fix failed; dealers now install a Sony camera. Owner letters mail August 24, 2026. Honda: 1-888-234-2138 (recall HOX). ([Kelley Blue Book](https://www.kbb.com/recall/))

### 2025-2026 Hyundai Tucson: Instrument Panel May Reboot and Go Blank (NHTSA #26V - Hyundai recall 306)

Hyundai is recalling roughly 96,310 2025-2026 Tucson, Tucson Hybrid, and Tucson Plug-In Hybrid SUVs because the instrument panel can intermittently reboot and go temporarily blank while driving, hiding the speedometer, fuel gauge, and warning lights (a violation of FMVSS 101). As of June 2026, there are no confirmed crashes, fires or injuries in the U.S. linked to the defect. The fix is a free software update, at the dealer or over-the-air for Bluelink vehicles. Owner letters mail August 22, 2026. Hyundai: 1-855-371-9460. ([Fox Business](https://www.foxbusiness.com/lifestyle/hyundai-recalls-nearly-100k-vehicles-dashboard-glitch-raises-crash-risk); [autoevolution](https://www.autoevolution.com/news/hyundai-recalls-96310-units-of-the-tucson-crossover-for-potential-instrument-panel-display-failure-272100.html)) [Motor1.com](https://www.motor1.com/news/800076/hyundai-tucson-recalled-bad-instrument-panel-displays/)

### 2026 Ram 1500: Parking and Daytime Running Lights May Flicker or Fail (NHTSA #26V - Chrysler)

Chrysler is recalling about 12,592 2026 Ram 1500 pickups because a wiring fault can make the parking lights and daytime running lights flicker or fail, cutting how well other drivers can see you - a real hazard at dawn, at dusk, and in Nevada dust. That fails FMVSS 108. Check your VIN and contact Ram. ([Trucks, Parts, Service - NHTSA weekly list](https://www.truckpartsandservice.com/regulations/equipment/article/15829849/nhtsa-commercial-vehicle-recalls-for-the-week-of-july-13-2026))

## Also Filed This Week - Worth a VIN Check

Quick hits from this week's NHTSA filings. Check yours at [NHTSA.gov/recalls](https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls):

2026 Chevrolet Traverse (Braun-modified) - NHTSA #26V434. A missing braze connection in a fuel line on certain wheelchair-accessible conversions. ([ConsumerAffairs](https://www.consumeraffairs.com/news/auto-safety-recall-derby-week-of-july-13-071326.html))

2026 Toyota Tundra (Southeast Toyota) - NHTSA #26V433. An incorrect load-carrying-capacity label (FMVSS 110). ([ConsumerAffairs](https://www.consumeraffairs.com/news/auto-safety-recall-derby-week-of-july-13-071326.html))

2026 Thomas Built school and transit buses (Daimler) - two campaigns. The entrance door may fail to open or close. ([Trucks, Parts, Service](https://www.truckpartsandservice.com/regulations/equipment/article/15829849/nhtsa-commercial-vehicle-recalls-for-the-week-of-july-13-2026))

2026 Jayco Seismic fifth-wheel toy haulers - NHTSA. An inverter installed without a ground connection; fire and shock risk. ([Trucks, Parts, Service](https://www.truckpartsandservice.com/regulations/equipment/article/15829849/nhtsa-commercial-vehicle-recalls-for-the-week-of-july-13-2026))

## This Week's Recalls for Riders

No new motorcycle campaigns were filed this week. Several earlier ones are still open, and two are serious enough that we're repeating them.

### 2025 Yamaha Ténéré 700 - "DO NOT RIDE" (Yamaha recall 990190)

Yamaha's Do Not Ride advisory still covers all 4,173 2025 Ténéré 700 (XTZ690) motorcycles in the U.S. A defect in the turn-signal circuitry inside the meter assembly can make the signals fail. On two wheels, a turn signal isn't a convenience - it's the only thing telling the driver in the next lane where you're headed. Do not ride it. Yamaha will replace the meter assembly free. Yamaha: 1-800-962-7926 (recall 990190). ([RideApart](https://www.rideapart.com/news/798505/yamaha-tenere-700-stop-ride-turn-signal-recall/))

### 2024-2026 Honda CBR600RR: Rod Bearing May Seize (NHTSA #25V891)

Honda's recall of 1,253 CBR600RR sportbikes remains open. Improper finishing of the cylinder surface can raise oil consumption until oil pressure drops and a connecting-rod bearing seizes - which can lock the rear wheel or put oil on your rear tire. Check your oil level often. Honda: 1-866-784-1870 (recall KT5). ([RideApart](https://www.rideapart.com/news/783688/honda-cbr600rr-oil-starvation-recall/))

### 2024-2026 Harley-Davidson Touring, Softail & Trike: Oil May Eject From the Fill Spout (NHTSA #26V270)

Still open: 88,039 motorcycles whose airbox breather port can clog and let pressure build in the crankcase - so oil can spray out when you pull the dipstick. Watch for exhaust smoke, high oil use, or a hiss when you check the oil. Harley-Davidson: 1-800-258-2464 (recall 0193). ([The Hill](https://thehill.com/business/5860840-harley-davidson-recalls-nearly-90000-motorcycles/))

## Critical Recalls Still Awaiting Repair

Covered earlier and still open for most owners:

Jeep Wrangler & Gladiator, 2021-2025 - "Park Outside" Fire Risk (NHTSA #26V363). 1,076,999 vehicles. The electric power-steering pump wiring can overheat and start a fire while the vehicle is parked and off. NHTSA is aware of 51 fires. Park outside, away from structures. FCA US: 1-800-853-1403 (recall 21D). ([NHTSA press release](https://www.nhtsa.gov/press-releases/urgent-park-outside-warning-issued-1-million-jeeps))

Honda Pilot, Passport, Ridgeline & Acura MDX - Rear Subframe May Corrode/Fail (NHTSA #26V365 / #26V367). More than 880,000 vehicles. Honda: 1-888-234-2138.

Ford Expedition, Lincoln Navigator, Explorer, Aviator & F-150 - Rollaway Risk (NHTSA #26V402). 741,195 trucks and SUVs with a park-system defect. Set your parking brake every time. Ford: 1-866-436-7332 (recall 26S48).

Land Rover Defender, Discovery & Range Rover - Driver's Airbag May Not Deploy (NHTSA #26V389). 250,857 SUVs under a stop-sale. Land Rover: 1-800-637-6837.

Ford Bronco Sport & Maverick - "Do Not Drive" Ball Joint (NHTSA #26V340). Do not drive until repaired; towing is covered. Ford: 1-866-436-7332.

## How to Check If Your Vehicle Has an Open Recall

Don't wait for the letter - several of this week's campaigns won't mail owner notices until August.

[NHTSA.gov/recalls](https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls) - enter your VIN or license plate. Free, instant, official.

Call 1-888-327-4236 - NHTSA's Vehicle Safety Hotline.

Download the SaferCar app - it pushes an alert when a recall hits any vehicle on your profile.

Your 17-character VIN sits on the lower-left of your windshield, on your registration, and usually on your insurance card. The lookup takes 30 seconds.

And check more than once. New CARFAX data shows nearly 7 million vehicles on U.S. roads currently have an unfixed recall tied to their backup camera system. As of that [May 2026 CARFAX report](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/carfax-nearly-7-million-vehicles-have-unfixed-backup-camera-recalls-302767914.html), California ranks second in the nation with roughly 545,000 unrepaired camera recalls, behind only Texas. Every one of those repairs is free. Most of those owners simply never checked.

## Frequently Asked Questions

###
What is the biggest recall this week?

Kia's recall of 462,869 model-year 2020-2024 Telluride SUVs (NHTSA #26V430). The front power-seat motor can overheat and catch fire, so NHTSA and Kia are urging owners to park outside until the repair. It replaces a 2024 recall whose original fix didn't fully work.

###
Which recalls this week involve a fire risk?

Several. The Kia Telluride seat-motor recall (#26V430); the Hyundai Ioniq 5 / Kia EV6 and EV9 battery-cell recall (#26V432 / #26V431); and the still-open Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator "park outside" steering-pump fire recall (#26V363). For all of these, owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until repaired.

###
Is there a child-safety recall I should know about?

Yes. Nissan is recalling certain 2026 LEAF EVs (recall R26A7) because a rear seat belt's automatic-locking retractor can deactivate early, which can prevent a child restraint from being secured properly. If you install a car seat in a new LEAF, check it and contact Nissan.

###
Why is my Kia Telluride being recalled again for the same thing?

Because the 2024 repair didn't hold. Kia found that a hard bump to the seat's side cover or slide knob could still dislodge the switch, and that some earlier repairs were done improperly. This time, dealers install an electronic fuse assembly that cuts power to the seat motor if the switch sticks.

###
Are recall repairs really free?

Yes. Under federal law, the manufacturer must fix a safety recall at no charge, and any brand-authorized dealer must do the work - even if you bought the vehicle used and aren't the original owner. If you already paid out of pocket for the same repair, ask the manufacturer about reimbursement.

###
Can I still bring a claim if the recall was announced after my crash?

Possibly. A recall issued after a crash can be evidence that the defect existed when you were hurt. Talk to a lawyer before you sign anything or accept an insurance offer.

## What If a Defective Vehicle Caused Your Accident?

Read enough of these filings and a pattern shows up. Kia repaired a Telluride fire risk in 2024, and the fire risk came back. Honda fixed an Odyssey camera in 2020, and it failed again. The paperwork is the point: a recall is a written record of what a company knew, and when it knew it.

If a defect caused or contributed to your crash (whether the recall came before or after) you may have a claim against the manufacturer, on top of any insurance claim. Insurers count on you not knowing that. They count on a fast offer and a tired signature.

At Sam & Ash Injury Law, we don't let that happen. Whether you were in a car, a truck, an SUV, or on a [motorcycle](https://samandashlaw.com/practice-areas/nevada/motorcycle-accidents/), we fight for people hurt by defective vehicles across Nevada and California, from Las Vegas and Reno to Newport Beach and across Southern California.

The consultation is free, 24/7. There's no fee unless we win. [Check your VIN](https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls) tonight. And if a defective vehicle already hurt you, we'll make them answer for it.
