*Last updated: October 5, 2026; recalls below cover September 29-October 5, 2026.*

*Five minutes checking your VIN beats months arguing with an insurer after a defect puts you in a crash. Here's what manufacturers and NHTSA filed this week, and what it means if you drive in Nevada or California.*

Nearly 74,000 vehicles landed under new recall notices this week, and the biggest filing is about something you only notice when it's gone: your headlights. Ford is recalling 41,748 Expedition SUVs and Super Duty trucks after finding that a contaminated LED chip can knock out the high beams, low beams, and daytime running lights. Cadillac is recalling 29,347 Optiq EVs because a window can keep closing on a hand or finger. GM also recalled older Silverado and Sierra pickups over roof-rail airbag inflators that can rupture, and Land Rover recalled Range Rover Sport SUVs over rear subframes that can crack. The Ford Ranger backup-camera recall we flagged last week still has no repair. None of these filings carry a "do not drive" order, but a dark road, a rupturing airbag, or a cracked chassis part is exactly how an ordinary drive turns into a crash. Check your VIN today on [NHTSA's recall lookup](https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls) instead of waiting on a letter.

## This Week's Biggest Recall

### 2025-2027 Ford Expedition & 2026 Ford F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550 Super Duty: Contaminated LED Chip Can Cause Headlight Failure (NHTSA #26V606)

Ford is recalling 41,748 vehicles after finding that the headlight assemblies may contain a contaminated LED chip, according to [Ford Authority's report](https://fordauthority.com/2026/10/ford-expedition-super-duty-recalled-over-led-lighting-issue/) on the filing. The affected Expeditions were built between June 24, 2025, and July 2, 2026, and the Super Duty trucks are from the 2026 model year. A failing chip can cause the loss of daytime running lights, parking lights, high beams, or low beams, and [Cars.com's coverage](https://www.cars.com/articles/ford-recalls-41000-plus-suvs-pickup-trucks-for-failing-exterior-lighting-529738/) notes that lost lighting reduces visibility and raises crash risk. Ford says it is not aware of any accidents or injuries tied to the problem.

**What to do:** Dealers will inspect the headlight assemblies and replace them at no cost. Owner letters are expected to mail October 26. Call Ford at **1-866-436-7332** and reference recall 26C43.

## Other Major Recalls Filed This Week

### 2025-2027 Cadillac Optiq: Key Fob "Express-Up" Windows May Not Reverse When Blocked (NHTSA #26V612)

GM is recalling 29,347 Optiq EVs built between July 24, 2024, and September 22, 2026. According to [autoevolution's summary](https://www.autoevolution.com/news/gm-s-cadillac-division-recalls-optiq-ev-for-remote-window-safety-concern-276379.html) of the filing, the front windows' anti-pinch system can fail to stop and reverse during the last 13 millimeters of travel when you close them with the key fob. A supplier calibrated the upper travel range incorrectly, so a hand, finger, or pet's paw caught near the top of the glass may not trigger the reversal that federal rules require. GM reports no field complaints, but testing showed most of the vehicles it checked missed the federal standard. Kids and dogs are the obvious risk, so don't use the fob to close the windows until you've had the update.

**What to do:** A software update takes roughly ten minutes and is available from the dealer or over the air. Owner letters are expected November 9. Call Cadillac at **1-800-458-8006** and reference GM recall N262567230.

### 2016-2017 Chevrolet Silverado & GMC Sierra Crew Cabs: Roof-Rail Airbag Inflators Can Rupture (NHTSA #26V611)

GM is recalling 1,559 older pickups after finding that a roof-rail airbag inflator's end cap can detach or its sidewall can rupture. [GM Authority's report](https://gmauthority.com/blog/2026/09/yet-another-recall-for-chevy-silverado-gmc-sierra-roof-rail-airbag-inflator-issue/) traces the problem to production cracks combined with leftover moisture inside the inflator, which leads to stress corrosion over time. When one fails, compressed gas and metal fragments can fly into the cabin. GM documented one incident in which occupants reported ringing in their ears after a sidewall rupture. The count is small, but a roof-rail airbag is the one that's supposed to protect your head in a rollover or side impact.

**What to do:** Dealers will replace both the left and right roof-rail airbag modules at no cost, using parts from outside the suspect production window. Owner letters are expected November 9. Call Chevrolet at **1-800-222-1020** or GMC at **1-888-988-7267** and reference GM recall N262569920.

### 2024-2026 Land Rover Range Rover Sport: Rear Subframe Can Crack (NHTSA #26V613)

Jaguar Land Rover is recalling 873 Range Rover Sport SUVs built between October 3, 2023, and May 22, 2026, after a forging defect at suppliers left cracks that final machining can hide, per [subframe recall coverage](https://www.motor1.com/news/810591/range-rover-sport-recall-subframe-cracks/) on the recall. The rear subframe anchors the suspension and carries chassis loads, so a cracked one can weaken the structure and affect handling. [Lemon Law Group Partners' filing summary](https://lemonlawgrouppartners.com/land-rover-range-rover-sport-structure-recall-26v613000) lists a September 24 filing date. Reporting on the filing says JLR has received no field reports of related problems, and the company says it tightened supplier and end-of-line checks in June.

**What to do:** Dealers will inspect each vehicle and replace the rear subframe at no cost if needed. Interim owner letters are expected November 20, with final letters to follow. Call Land Rover at **1-800-637-6837** and reference recalls D165 and D166.

### Still No Fix: 2026 Ford Ranger Screen and Rearview Camera Recall (NHTSA #26V605)

Last week's Ford Ranger recall is still open, and it still has no repair. Ford is recalling 11,405 Rangers because the 10.1-inch center screen can lose power and take the rearview camera image with it, according to [Vehicle Service Pros' weekly roundup](https://www.vehicleservicepros.com/industry-news/service-repair/article/55409252/national-highway-traffic-safety-administration-nhtsa-nhtsa-recalls-sept-28oct-2-cadillac-ford-toyota) of NHTSA filings. Ford began mailing interim notices October 5 while it works on a remedy. Until a repair exists, back up slowly and use your mirrors and a spotter. Call Ford at **1-866-436-7332** and reference recall 26C42.

### Also Worth Knowing: Toyota and Lexus Steering Knuckle Recall

The same roundup also lists Toyota and Lexus's 617-vehicle recall of 2026 Lexus TX and RX models and Toyota Grand Highlanders. A manufacturing error can leave the front steering knuckles prone to cracking, which can mean a loss of steering control. Owner letters are expected November 2. Call Toyota at **1-800-331-4331** and reference recalls 26TA19 and 26LA09.

## This Week's Recall for Motorcycle Riders

Straight answer: we could not find a new motorcycle campaign filed this week. Two open recalls still deserve every rider's attention. Kawasaki's 2024-2026 Ninja ZX-6R crankshaft recall covers 20,301 U.S. bikes, and [Motorcycle.com's report](https://www.motorcycle.com/bikes/news/kawasaki-ninja-zx-6r-recalled-a-second-time-for-the-same-issue-44657929) on the second recall says Kawasaki put a stop-sale in place and told owners to stop riding until a repair is done. The most recent coverage we could find, from mid-August, still described the remedy as unavailable, and we could not confirm a finished repair, so call Kawasaki at **1-855-878-4217** with your VIN before you ride. Harley-Davidson's airbox recall covers about 88,000 Street Glide, Road Glide, Fat Boy, and Breakout models from 2024-2026, where a blocked breather port can build crankcase pressure and shoot oil out when you pull the dipstick, according to [RideApart's coverage](https://www.rideapart.com/news/794662/harley-davidson-airbox-oil-recall/) of the filing. Dealers inspect the airbox baseplate and clear the port at no cost; call Harley-Davidson at **1-800-258-2464**.

## Critical Recalls Still Open

These campaigns are from earlier weeks and are still unrepaired for many owners:

- **2021-2025 Jeep Wrangler & Gladiator (1,076,999 vehicles)** - an electrical connection in the power steering pump wiring can overheat and ignite even with the vehicle off. NHTSA is aware of 51 fires and one injury, and its [park-outside warning](https://www.nhtsa.gov/press-releases/urgent-park-outside-warning-issued-1-million-jeeps) is still the safest move until your Jeep is repaired.
- **2019-2024 Jaguar Land Rover SUVs with 48-volt systems** - the DC-DC converter recall grew by 23,677 vehicles, and the defect can cause a complete loss of drive power. Owner letters on the expansion are expected November 13.

## FAQ: This Week's Auto & Motorcycle Recalls

### What is the biggest recall this week?

Ford's recall of 41,748 Expedition SUVs and Super Duty trucks. A contaminated LED chip in the headlight assemblies can cause the loss of high beams, low beams, daytime running lights, and parking lights.

### Is there a fix for the Ford Ranger backup-camera recall?

Not yet. Ford is still developing a remedy for the 11,405 Rangers, and it began sending interim notices October 5. Final letters will follow once a repair is ready.

### Can I keep using my key fob to close the windows on a Cadillac Optiq?

Avoid it until the software update is installed. The recall covers 29,347 Optiq EVs whose front windows may not stop and reverse when something blocks them during key fob express-up. The update is free and can be done over the air or at a dealer.

### Are the Silverado and Sierra airbag recalls dangerous even though only 1,559 trucks are affected?

Yes. A small count doesn't mean a small risk. A ruptured roof-rail airbag inflator can send metal fragments into the cabin. Dealers will replace both roof-rail airbag modules at no cost.

### Are recall repairs really free?

Yes. Under federal law, manufacturers must fix safety defects at no cost to the owner, including parts and labor.

### Were there any motorcycle recalls this week?

We found no new motorcycle campaign filed this week. Riders of 2024-2026 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R models should still treat the stop-riding advisory as active until Kawasaki confirms a repair for their VIN.

### Can I still bring a claim if the recall came out after my crash?

Often, yes. A manufacturer's recall filing documents what it knew and when. If your crash happened before the recall was announced, that record can become evidence that the defect existed and the manufacturer knew or should have known about it.

### What if I bought my car used and never got a recall notice?

Manufacturers don't always have a current mailing address for the owner, so don't wait on the mail. Enter your 17-character VIN on NHTSA's recall site to see every open recall on your vehicle.

## How to Check If Your Vehicle Has an Open Recall

1. Go to NHTSA's recall search and enter your 17-character VIN. It's free, instant, and pulls directly from manufacturer filings.
2. Call NHTSA's Vehicle Safety Hotline at **1-888-327-4236**.
3. Call your dealer with your VIN. They can check for open recalls and schedule the repair in the same call.

Don't stop at checking. Book the repair. A recall notice does nothing until the part is actually fixed.

## What If a Defective Vehicle Caused Your Accident?

A recall notice that arrives after your crash doesn't close the door on your case. When a manufacturer knew about a defect, or should have known, before it hurt you, that knowledge is evidence, not an excuse. Insurers would rather blame the person behind the wheel than the part that failed underneath them, because a driver-error finding costs them nothing. You don't have to accept that framing, and you don't have to dig through NHTSA filings alone.

If failing headlights, a faulty airbag, a cracked suspension part, or any other defect played a role in your crash in Nevada or California, Sam & Ash Injury Law will dig into the recall history, the complaint record, and the manufacturer's own filings to build your case. Consultations are free, available 24/7, and you owe nothing unless we win. Call Nevada at **702-857-6566**, California at **949-694-3120**, or our general line at **1-877-658-9951**. The first conversation is free, and so is the honesty. Check your VIN before you check anything else, and stay safe out there, Vegas.
