*Last updated: October 12, 2026 - recalls below cover October 5-12, 2026.*

*Checking your VIN takes two minutes. Dealing with a steering failure at 40 miles an hour takes a lot longer. Here's what was filed this week, and what it means if you drive in Nevada or California.*

More than 346,000 vehicles landed under new recall notices this week, and the biggest filing involves a part you rely on every second you're moving: your steering. Ram is recalling 265,512 ProMaster vans because water can corrode the power steering wiring and cut off assist, often with no warning. Volkswagen is recalling 22,524 ID.4 SUVs over a battery that could catch fire, and the repair doesn't exist yet. Ram also recalled 16,385 new 1500 pickups over tire pressure sensors that may not warn you when a tire is low. None of these carry a blanket "stop driving" order for most owners, but a stiff steering wheel, a battery fire, or a flat tire you never saw coming is how an ordinary drive turns into a crash. Look up your VIN today on [NHTSA's recall lookup](https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls) instead of waiting on a letter.

## This Week's Biggest Recall

### 2022-2026 Ram ProMaster 1500, 2500 & 3500 and 2024-2026 ProMaster 3500 EV: Water Can Disable Power Steering Assist (NHTSA #26V621)

Ram's parent company, Chrysler (FCA US), is recalling 265,512 ProMaster vans after finding that water can get into the electric power steering wiring harness and corrode it, according to the [NHTSA recall report](https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2026/RCLRPT-26V621-5191.pdf). The corrosion can cause an intermittent or permanent loss of power steering assist. The vans affected include 44,391 ProMaster 1500s, 147,204 ProMaster 2500s, 72,043 ProMaster 3500s, and 1,874 ProMaster 3500 EVs. You still have steering when assist fails, but it gets much harder to turn, and [Fox Business reported](https://foxbusiness.com/economy/more-than-265k-ram-vehicles-facing-recall-over-steering-defect-regulators-say) that drivers may get no warning first. The filing lists one related crash with no injuries. It also shows 2,799 warranty claims, and NHTSA had opened a preliminary investigation into the problem on March 2, 2026.

**What to do:** Dealers will inspect the vehicle and replace the wiring harness, and the power steering gear if needed, at no cost. The final remedy isn't ready yet. Interim owner letters are expected November 17. Call Ram at **1-800-853-1403** and reference recall 92D.

## Other Major Recalls Filed This Week

### 2023-2026 Volkswagen ID.4: High-Voltage Battery May Fail and Cause a Fire (NHTSA #26V630)

Volkswagen is recalling 22,524 ID.4 SUVs because the high-voltage battery may fail and cause a fire. [Electrive's coverage](https://www.electrive.com/2026/10/09/vw-recalls-another-22524-id-4-vehicles-due-to-fire-risk/) reports that Volkswagen hasn't pinned down the root cause, and that the problem is tied to certain charging profiles combined with a charge level above 80 percent. Volkswagen counted 22 related reports or complaints from January 2024 through August 2026. This is not the first ID.4 battery recall this year, so owners who already had one repair done should still check their VIN again.

**What to do:** Until a repair exists, charge to no more than 80 percent of battery capacity, as laid out in [NHTSA's recall acknowledgment](https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2026/RCAK-26V630-3745.pdf). Interim owner letters are expected November 27. Call Volkswagen at **1-800-893-5298** and reference recall 93EX.

### 2026 Ram 1500: Tire Pressure Sensors May Not Warn You (NHTSA #26V623)

Ram is recalling 16,385 model-year 2026 Ram 1500 pickups because the tire pressure monitoring sensors may fail to detect low pressure or fail to turn on the warning light, according to [Vehicle Service Pros' weekly roundup](https://www.vehicleservicepros.com/industry-news/service-repair/article/55410760/national-highway-traffic-safety-administration-nhtsa-nhtsa-recalls-oct-59-ram-ford-volkswagen-id4). The trucks don't meet federal tire pressure monitoring standards. Until it's fixed, check your tire pressure with a gauge. Don't trust the dash.

**What to do:** Dealers will inspect and replace the sensors as needed at no cost. Owner letters are expected October 27. Call Ram at **1-800-853-1403** and reference recall 51D.

### 2027 Rivian R2: Loose High-Voltage Fastener Can Cause Sudden Loss of Power (NHTSA #26V625)

Rivian is recalling just 14 early-production 2027 R2 SUVs built between May 18 and August 27, 2026, after finding a battery fastener that may be improperly torqued. The [NHTSA recall filing](https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2026/RCLRPT-26V625-5393.pdf) says it can cause a sudden loss of drive power with no warning and carries a "Do Not Drive, Park Outside" advisory. Rivian reports no known crashes or injuries. The count is tiny, but if you own one, call Rivian before you drive.

**What to do:** Rivian will inspect the connection and repair it or replace the parts at no cost. Owner notices are expected by November 29.

### 2024 Land Rover Defender: Second-Row Seat Belt May Be Improperly Stitched (NHTSA #26V615)

Jaguar Land Rover is recalling 371 model-year 2024 Defenders because a second-row seat belt may be improperly stitched and may not restrain a passenger in a crash, per the same [Vehicle Service Pros recall list](https://www.vehicleservicepros.com/industry-news/service-repair/article/55410760/national-highway-traffic-safety-administration-nhtsa-nhtsa-recalls-oct-59-ram-ford-volkswagen-id4). Dealers will check the belt's serial number and replace it as needed, free of charge. Interim letters are expected November 20. Call Land Rover at **1-800-637-6837** and reference recall D130.

## Follow-Up: Ford Headlight Recall Still Awaiting Owner Letters

The Ford Expedition and Super Duty recall we covered last week (41,748 vehicles, NHTSA #26V606) is still open. A contaminated LED chip can knock out low beams, high beams, and running lights. Owner letters are expected October 26. Call Ford at **1-866-436-7332** and reference recall 26C43.

## Also Worth Knowing: Work Trucks, RVs, and a Transit Bus

[ConsumerAffairs' weekly recall list](https://www.consumeraffairs.com/news/auto-safety-recall-derby-week-of-october-05-100526.html) also names new NHTSA recalls for Mack Pioneer and Anthem trucks (detaching bezels), Grech Motors vehicles (an overheating circuit board), Highland Ridge and Starcraft RVs (a fresh water tank that can detach), and Nova Bus LFS buses (a detaching bike rack). If you drive or tow any of these, check your VIN.

## This Week's Recall for Motorcycle Riders

Straight answer: we could not find a new motorcycle campaign filed this week. Two earlier recalls still deserve a look. Yamaha recalled 4,173 U.S. 2025 Ténéré 700 bikes because the dashboard's turn signal circuitry can stop the signals from activating, and [Motorcycle.com's report](https://www.motorcycle.com/bikes/news/2025-yamaha-tnr-700-recalled-for-turn-signal-issue-44666170) says owners are advised not to ride until the dealer replaces the display. Harley-Davidson's airbox recall covers 88,039 motorcycles, mostly 2024-2026 touring and cruiser models, where a blocked breather port can build crankcase pressure and spray oil when you pull the dipstick, [Fox Business reported](https://www.foxbusiness.com/lifestyle/harley-davidson-recalls-nearly-90000-motorcycles-over-defect-could-eject-oil-cause-injury). Dealers inspect and clear the port at no cost. Riders can check any bike's VIN on NHTSA's site, and an oil slick on your own tire is the last thing you want in traffic.

## FAQ: This Week's Auto & Motorcycle Recalls

### What is the biggest recall this week?

Ram's recall of 265,512 ProMaster vans. Water can corrode the power steering wiring harness and cause a loss of steering assist, and the final repair isn't available yet.

### Can I keep driving my Ram ProMaster?

Steering still works if assist fails, but it takes much more effort and can happen without warning. Call a Ram dealer with your VIN about an inspection and watch for the interim letter in November.

### How do I lower the fire risk on my Volkswagen ID.4 until it's fixed?

Volkswagen advises charging to no more than 80 percent of battery capacity until the repair is done. The root cause hasn't been identified, and interim letters are expected November 27.

### Is there a recall on the 2026 Ram 1500?

Yes. Ram is recalling 16,385 model-year 2026 Ram 1500 pickups whose tire pressure sensors may fail to warn you of low pressure. Dealers will replace sensors for free.

### Are recall repairs really free?

Yes. Under federal law, manufacturers must fix safety defects at no cost to the owner, including parts and labor.

### Were there any motorcycle recalls this week?

We found no new motorcycle campaign filed this week. Owners of 2025 Yamaha Ténéré 700 bikes and certain 2024-2026 Harley-Davidson models should still check their VINs for open recalls.

### Can I still bring a claim if the recall came out after my crash?

Often, yes. A manufacturer's recall filing documents what it knew and when. If your crash happened before the recall was announced, that record can become evidence that the defect existed and the manufacturer knew or should have known about it.

### What if I bought my car used and never got a recall notice?

Manufacturers don't always have a current mailing address for the owner, so don't wait on the mail. Enter your 17-character VIN on NHTSA's recall site to see every open recall on your vehicle.

## How to Check If Your Vehicle Has an Open Recall

1. Go to NHTSA's recall search and enter your 17-character VIN. It's free, instant, and pulls directly from manufacturer filings.
2. Call NHTSA's Vehicle Safety Hotline at **1-888-327-4236**.
3. Call your dealer with your VIN. They can check for open recalls and schedule the repair in the same call.

Don't stop at checking. Book the repair. A recall notice does nothing until the part is actually fixed.

## What If a Defective Vehicle Caused Your Accident?

A recall notice that arrives after your crash doesn't close the door on your case. When a manufacturer knew about a defect, or should have known, before it hurt you, that knowledge is evidence, not an excuse. Insurers would rather blame the person behind the wheel than the part that failed underneath them, because a driver-error finding costs them nothing. You don't have to accept that, and you don't have to dig through NHTSA filings alone.

If a steering failure, a battery fire, a bad sensor, or any other defect played a role in your crash in Nevada or California, Sam & Ash Injury Law will dig into the recall history, the complaint record, and the manufacturer's own filings to build your case. Consultations are free, available 24/7, and you owe nothing unless we win. Call Nevada at **702-857-6566**, California at **949-694-3120**, or our general line at **1-877-658-9951**. Check your VIN before you check anything else, and stay safe out there, Vegas.
