SAM MIREJOVSKY: In these difficult times, Las Vegas and some its leading businesses have responded admirably. Gaming giants MGM Resorts and Wynn Resorts showed great concern for the health of their employees and customers when they shut down all of their venues in an effort to contain the spread of the coronavirus. It's important they made this move because we now know that in cases like the outbreak in New Rochelle, New York it was a single individual who attended religious proceedings and inadvertently infected several at that same service. Those who were infected went on to unknowingly infect others. And now there's a shutdown in the area of historic proportions. And it's considered one of the nations worst hotspots of a coronavirus outbreak.

In our case, when you see The Strip and it's empty, it seems so foreign. And it's easy to be fearful. But the truth is that we now know this is the fastest way our city, our nation can recover. This shutdown, which took a lot of guts, is our way out — is our way of beating the coronavirus and cheating it out of a way to get a foothold. We will get through this. I know we will.

Las Vegas is a wonderful city. It's adaptive. It's creative. Our city has invented and reinvented itself to become the entertainment capital of the world. There's going to be an end to this. And when that day comes, then that will be the time for the greatest celebration the city has ever seen. Let's stay together by staying apart. Even if it's just for a few weeks, a few months, or whatever time it takes. And when it does end, I'm celebrating at the MGM. And the next night, I'm going to the Wynn. And the next night, I'm going back to the MGM. You get the picture.

They did the right thing. They did the courageous thing. It's painful for everyone involved. Especially the employees who are such an important part of this community. But because they took the strong course of action, all of us will hopefully get through this a little sooner. Get back to work a little sooner. We will get through this together. We all know it. I'm Sam Mirejovsky.
