Weekly Automobile & Motorcycle Safety Recalls | Updated Jun 01, 2026

A line of parked cars symbolizes safety and preparedness, reflecting a commitment to advocacy.

(UPDATED JUNE 1, 2026)

At Sam and Ash Injury Law, keeping your family safe on Nevada and California roads is more than a mission, it’s personal. Every week, our automobile safety recalls blog delivers the latest vehicle safety recalls issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and major manufacturers, so you can take action before a hidden defect becomes a life-changing injury.

Whether you’re navigating Las Vegas traffic, the congested freeways of Orange County, or Southern California’s busy I-405 corridor, a single unattended recall can transform a routine drive into a devastating crash. As experienced car accident attorneys serving Nevada and California, we see firsthand what defective vehicles do to real families. That’s why we publish this weekly vehicle safety recall summary. It’s free, updated, and written in plain language so you can act fast.

This week’s roundup features the critical “Do Not Drive” warning still in effect for millions of GM trucks and SUVs, a massive new Jeep Grand Cherokee airbag recall affecting more than 419,000 vehicles, an explosive airbag inflator rupture risk in older Hyundai Elantras, the Kia Carnival fuel leak fire risk, and much more.

STILL URGENT: “Do Not Drive” Warning Remains Active

General Motors: Front and/or Rear Wheels May Completely Lock Up — Do Not Drive (NHTSA #26V289)

This remains one of the most dangerous open recalls in the country, and it has not gone away. General Motors has issued a “Do Not Drive” order after determining that a component missing from the drivetrain transfer case may cause one or more wheels to lock up without any warning while the vehicle is in motion, resulting in sudden and total loss of control. Owner notification letters are expected to begin mailing June 22, 2026, but do not wait for the letter. (NHTSA Recall Documents)

If your vehicle is listed below, do not drive it:

  • Cadillac Escalade & Escalade ESV — 2015, 2026
  • Chevrolet Silverado 1500 — 2026
  • Chevrolet Suburban — 2015, 2017–2020
  • Chevrolet Suburban 1500 — 2026
  • Chevrolet Tahoe — 2016–2017, 2019, 2026
  • GMC Sierra 1500 — 2026
  • GMC Yukon — 2019–2020, 2026
  • GMC Yukon XL — 2018–2019, 2026

What you must do: Contact your GM dealer immediately to arrange towing and a mobile repair option. Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the transfer case assembly at no charge. Confirm your VIN at NHTSA.gov/recalls.

This Week’s Full Automobile & Motorcycle Safety Recalls (June 2–8, 2026)

The following recalls were newly announced or have significant owner notification activity during the week of June 2, 2026. Check your VIN immediately at NHTSA.gov/recalls.

Jeep Grand Cherokee & Grand Cherokee L: Side Airbags May Delay or Fail to Deploy in a Crash — 419,000+ Vehicles (NHTSA #26V328)

This is one of the largest and most consequential recalls active right now, and it affects a vehicle that is parked in driveways across Nevada and California. Stellantis (FCA US, LLC) is recalling approximately 419,035 vehicles, including certain 2022–2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2023–2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee L models, because a software error in the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) module may cause temporary door airbag pressure sensor faults to remain active permanently. As a result, the fault may prevent side airbags from immediately deploying in certain types of crashes. TFLcar

Dealers will update the ORC software free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed beginning June 11, 2026. VINs became searchable through NHTSA’s recall database on May 28, 2026. MoparInsiders

A side airbag that doesn’t fire on time in a crash isn’t a minor inconvenience, it’s the difference between walking away or suffering a catastrophic head or chest injury. If you own either of these SUVs, schedule your software update now rather than waiting for the letter.

What to do: Contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403, reference recall number 01D. Enter your VIN at NHTSA.gov/recalls. The repair is free.

Hyundai Elantra & Elantra GT 2015–2016: Airbag Inflator May Rupture & Eject Shrapnel (NHTSA #26V307)

This is the most severe safety risk among this week’s new recalls. Hyundai is recalling certain 2015–2016 Elantra and 2016 Elantra GT vehicles because the driver’s airbag inflator may rupture during deployment. The recall affects 3,493 vehicles equipped with ARC Automotive dual-stage hybrid airbag inflators whose propellant may be outside of the supplier’s density specifications, causing increased pressure that raises the risk of a rupture and potential ejection of metal fragments at the driver. Carscoops

Dealers will inspect and replace the airbag inflator, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 13, 2026. Kelley Blue Book

An airbag inflator that ruptures is not just a malfunction, it is a shrapnel event. If you own one of these vehicles, this is not a “wait and see” situation. Contact your dealer today.

What to do: Contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460, reference recall number 300. Confirm your VIN at NHTSA.gov/recalls.

Kia Carnival 2022–2026: Fuel Pipe May Loosen and Leak (Fire Risk) — Owner Letters Mailing Now (NHTSA #26V232)

Kia is recalling 141,032 Carnival minivans after determining that a production deviation — specifically, an insufficient torque specification on the high-pressure crossover fuel pipe nuts during engine assembly — may cause those nuts to loosen over time, resulting in a fuel leak that increases the risk of fire near an ignition source. Owner notification letters are scheduled to be mailed June 2, 2026. Bizzycar

Fuel leaks near a hot engine carry a significant fire risk. If you drive a Carnival in any of the affected model years, your letter should be arriving soon. Don’t wait. Schedule your inspection immediately.

What to do: Contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Dealers will inspect the crossover fuel pipe and replace it if a leak is found, or properly tighten the pipe nuts, at no charge. Enter your VIN at NHTSA.gov/recalls.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 (2025) & Ioniq 9 (2026): Rear Suspension Fasteners May Loosen and Detach — Crash Risk (NHTSA #26V303)

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has published a recall for certain 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 and 2026 Ioniq 9 vehicles, specifically those produced at the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America in Bryan County, Georgia, between December 2024 and July 2025. Rear suspension fasteners may have been assembled with insufficient torque and can loosen over time. If the vehicle is operated in this condition, a nut and/or bolt may detach, increasing the risk of a crash. Affected customers will be notified by first-class mail no later than July 17, 2026. AutoblogAutoevolution

Early warning sign: abnormal noise or vibration coming from the rear of the vehicle while driving. If you notice this, stop driving and contact your dealer immediately.

Dealers will inspect and replace the rear suspension fasteners and perform a rear vehicle alignment, as necessary, free of charge. Autoguide.com

What to do: Contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460, reference recall number 303. Confirm your VIN at NHTSA.gov/recalls.

Hyundai Elantra Hybrid 2024–2026: Hybrid Power Control Unit May Overheat (NHTSA #26V307 / Recall #301)

Hyundai Motor America is recalling certain 2024–2026 Elantra Hybrid vehicles because the hybrid power control unit (HPCU) assembly may overheat. Dealers will update the HPCU software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 13, 2026. Kelley Blue Book

What to do: Contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460, reference recall number 301. Enter your VIN at NHTSA.gov/recalls.

General Motors — Cadillac Escalade, Chevy Suburban/Tahoe, GMC Yukon/Yukon XL: Incorrect Wheel Hub Bolts — Crash Risk (NHTSA #26V304)

General Motors is recalling certain 2025–2026 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Suburban 1500, Tahoe, GMC Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles with 24-inch wheels because incorrect bolts may have been installed on the left and right front wheel hubs, which can result in the bolts loosening or deforming over time. Dealers will replace the front left and right wheel hub bolts, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 29, 2026. CarPro

A wheel hub bolt that loosens while driving can cause wheel separation. This is distinct from the separate “Do Not Drive” recall (#26V289) listed above. Check your VIN for both.

What to do: Contact Cadillac at 1-800-333-4223, Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC at 1-800-462-8782, reference recall number N262554630. Enter your VIN at NHTSA.gov/recalls. (CarPro)

Ford Escape & Lincoln Corsair 2026: Vehicle May Roll Away When Shifted Into Park (NHTSA #26V301)

Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2026 Escape and Lincoln Corsair vehicles because the integrated park module may fail to lock into the park position when the driver shifts into park, which means the vehicle fails to comply with FMVSS 114 covering Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention. The SOBDMC software will be updated over-the-air (OTA) or by a dealer, free of charge. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed May 20, 2026, with additional letters to follow once the full remedy is available. CarPro

A vehicle that rolls after you park it presents a direct danger to everyone nearby. If you own one of these models, do not park on any incline until this is resolved.

What to do: Contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, reference recall number 25C69. Confirm your VIN at NHTSA.gov/recalls. (CarPro)

Tesla Model 3, Model Y, Model S, Model X (Multiple Years): Rearview Camera Image May Be Delayed — OTA Fix Being Deployed (NHTSA #SB-26-00-016)

Tesla is recalling 218,868 vehicles in the United States, covering the 2017 Model 3, 2021–2023 Model 3, 2020–2023 Model Y, 2021–2023 Model S, and 2021–2023 Model X running software version 2026.8.6. The rearview camera image may not appear within the time required by FMVSS 111 when the driver shifts into reverse. The remedy is an over-the-air (OTA) software update being delivered free of charge. Owner notification letters are scheduled to be mailed July 3, 2026. Destination Charged

Tesla says that more than 99.92% of the vehicles involved have already installed the corrected firmware, version 2026.8.6.1, through Tesla’s standard OTA release channel. Even so: check your software version and confirm the update has been applied. CarBuzz

What to do: Contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752, reference recall number SB-26-00-016. Confirm your VIN at NHTSA.gov/recalls or at Tesla’s VIN Recall Search. (Destination Charged)

Hyundai Motor America is recalling certain 2024–2026 Elantra Hybrid, 2025–2026 Santa Cruz, and 2025–2026 Tucson vehicles because the front camera software may fail. Dealers will update the front camera software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 17, 2026. CarPro

What to do: Contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460, reference recall number 302. Enter your VIN at NHTSA.gov/recalls.
