The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) continues to announce important safety recalls that could affect drivers and riders across Nevada and Southern California. Here are the notable recalls reported or with significant activity during the week of May 11–18, 2026:
Harley-Davidson Motorcycles – Airbox Breather Port Blockage (NHTSA #26V270) — Owner Letters Mailing This Week
This is the biggest motorcycle recall of the year so far, and if you own a Harley, you need to act now. Harley-Davidson is recalling approximately 88,039 motorcycles across multiple 2024–2026 model years due to a potential engine issue that could increase the risk of rider injury. The recall involves select FLTRX, FLHX, FXBR, FLFB, FLHXU, FLTRXL, FLTRT, FLHXL, and FLHLT models (Touring, Softail, and Trike configurations) equipped with an airbox baseplate that may have a blocked breather port. The defect can allow pressure to build inside the crankcase. Possible warning signs include smoke from the exhaust, unusually high oil consumption, a detached ventilation hose, or an audible hissing sound when removing the oil dipstick. Remedy: Dealers will inspect the breather port, and if it is blocked, repair the blockage at no charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed beginning May 11, 2026. Owners may contact Harley-Davidson customer service at 1-800-258-2464 and reference recall number 0193. This is the second significant Harley recall in recent weeks, so if you ride a Touring, Softail, or Trike model, check your VIN today. (Powersports Business)
Ford Bronco & Ranger – Loose Front Seat Pivot Bolts (NHTSA #26V268 / Ford Recall 26S30) — Interim Owner Letters Mailing This Week
Ford is recalling 179,698 vehicles across the 2024–2026 model years — specifically 117,443 Bronco SUVs and 62,255 Ranger pickups — due to a front seat height-adjust pivot bolt that may loosen or fall out. The issue was caused by a supplier torque-check process that was performed before the adhesive on the bolt threads had fully cured, reducing its effectiveness and allowing the bolt to loosen over time. A seat with a dislodged bolt may not properly restrain an occupant in a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Drivers may notice squeaks, rattles, or a loose feeling in the front seat before the issue becomes critical. Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the pivot links and bolts as necessary, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 11, 2026, with final remedy letters following in July 2026 when parts are available. If you own a 2024–2026 Bronco or Ranger, do not wait for your letter. Call your Ford dealer now or check your VIN. Ford’s recall hotline is 1-866-436-7332. (Pickup Truck Talk)
Tesla Cybertruck – Wheel Studs May Separate (NHTSA #26V255)
Tesla is recalling certain 2024–2026 Cybertruck vehicles equipped with 18-inch steel wheels due to a potential wheel stud separation issue. Rough road conditions and cornering could strain the stud holes in the wheel rotor, causing cracks to form. With continued driving, the wheel stud could eventually separate from the hub, affecting vehicle controllability and increasing the risk of a collision. The recall affects 173 vehicles produced with these wheels from August 2025 onward. Early signs of the problem include vibrations or unusual noises from the wheels while driving. Remedy: Tesla Service will replace the front and rear brake rotors, hubs, and lug nuts at no cost. Owner notification letters are expected by June 20, 2026. Owners can contact Tesla at 1-877-798-3752 and reference recall number SB-26-33-003. While this recall covers a small number of vehicles, a wheel separating at highway speed is an extreme safety hazard. If you own a base Cybertruck with steel wheels, check your VIN immediately. Hyundai – Misassembled Air Bag Sensors (NHTSA #26V254)
Hyundai Motor America is recalling certain 2026 Elantra, 2025 Elantra N, 2026 Tucson, 2026 Tucson Hybrid, and 2026 Tucson Plug-in Hybrid vehicles due to misassembled air bag sensors. Improperly assembled air bag sensors can result in airbags not deploying correctly during a crash — a potentially life-threatening defect in any collision. If you drive one of these recent Hyundai models, this recall deserves your immediate attention. Check your VIN or contact Hyundai customer service for status and scheduling. Kia Carnival – Fuel Leak Fire Risk (NHTSA #26V232)
Kia is recalling more than 141,000 of its Carnival minivans from model years 2022–2026 due to a potential fuel leak at the connection between the fuel pipe and the fuel rail. A leaking fuel connection can pose a serious safety hazard, raising the likelihood of a vehicle fire, particularly if the fuel comes into contact with an ignition source. Remedy: Dealers will inspect the vehicles and either tighten or replace the fuel pipe as necessary, at no cost. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed beginning June 2, 2026. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542 and reference recall SC368. The Carnival is one of the most popular family minivans on California and Nevada roads. If you own one from any of these model years, check your VIN — do not wait for your letter.
Volkswagen Taos – Post-Crash Fuel Tank Fire Risk (NHTSA #26V258)
Volkswagen is recalling 38,710 model year 2025–2026 Taos subcompact SUVs due to a post-crash fire risk. In a rear-impact accident, a fuel tank pressure sensor may be pulled from the tank, potentially allowing fuel to spill and increasing the risk of fire. Remedy: Dealers will replace the affected sensor with an improved unit, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected beginning June 19, 2026. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. A fuel fire after a crash is a catastrophic secondary hazard, so Taos owners should get this repair scheduled as soon as owner letters and parts are available. (Kelley Blue Book)
Mercedes-Benz 2026 CLA – Front Passenger Seat Belt May Not Fasten (NHTSA #26V278)
Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling certain 2026 CLA 250+ (EV) and CLA 350 4MATIC (EV) vehicles due to a defect in which the front passenger seat belt may not fasten properly. A seat belt that cannot be fastened provides no protection in a crash; this is one of the most fundamental safety systems in any vehicle. If you own or frequently drive a 2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA electric model, contact your Mercedes-Benz dealer immediately for status on this recall. (The Auto Channel)
Chrysler – Instrument Panel Display Failure in Dodge Charger EV & Jeep Wagoneer S (NHTSA #26V262)
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2024–2025 Dodge Charger EV and 2024–2025 Jeep Wagoneer S vehicles due to instrument panel display failure, which may prevent critical safety information from being displayed to the driver. Dealers will update the instrument panel software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 21, 2026. Owners may contact FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Audi Q5 / SQ5 – Defective Seat Belts (NHTSA #26V271)
Volkswagen Group of America is recalling certain 2025 Audi Q5, Q5 Sportback, SQ5, and SQ5 Sportback vehicles because the driver and front passenger seat belts may have been manufactured incorrectly and could fail to properly restrain occupants during a crash. Dealers will replace the driver and front passenger seat belts as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 23, 2026. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834 and reference recall 69GT. (Kelley Blue Book)
Land Rover Defender 2026 – Thin Fuel Tank Walls (NHTSA #26V269)
Jaguar Land Rover North America is recalling certain 2026 Land Rover Defender vehicles because the fuel tank was improperly manufactured with walls that are too thin, creating a structural risk. Dealers will replace the fuel tank, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters are expected to begin mailing June 19, 2026. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837 and reference recall D127. (Kelley Blue Book)
