Weekly Automobile & Motorcycle Safety Recalls | Updated May 25, 2026

A line of parked cars symbolizes safety and preparedness, reflecting a commitment to advocacy.

At Sam and Ash Injury Law, keeping your family safe on Nevada and California roads is more than a mission, it’s personal. Every week, our automobile safety recalls blog delivers the latest vehicle safety recalls issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and major manufacturers, so you can take action before a hidden defect becomes a life-changing injury.

Whether you’re navigating the congestion of the Las Vegas Strip, the mountain curves near Reno, or Southern California’s busy freeways, a single unrepaired recall can transform a routine drive into a devastating crash. As experienced car accident attorneys serving Nevada and California, we see firsthand what defective vehicles do to real families. That’s why we publish this weekly vehicle safety recall summary — free, updated, and written in plain language so you can act fast.

This week’s roundup features high-urgency “Do Not Drive” warnings still in effect, critical new recalls issued in recent days affecting hundreds of thousands of vehicles, and important updates on open recalls from the past two weeks.

STILL URGENT: “Do Not Drive” Warnings Remain Active

âš ï¸Â General Motors: Front and/or Rear Wheels May Completely Lock Up (NHTSA #26V289)

This remains one of the most dangerous open recalls in the country. General Motors has issued a “Do Not Drive” order after determining that a severe mechanical defect in the drivetrain transfer case could cause one or more wheels to lock up without any warning while driving, resulting in immediate and total loss of vehicle control. A component missing from the drivetrain transfer case may cause the front and/or rear wheels to lock up without warning. As a precaution, owners should not drive these vehicles until the remedy is performed. Owner notification letters are expected to begin mailing June 22, 2026. NHTSA

Do not wait for the letter. If your vehicle is listed below, do not drive it.

Affected vehicles include:

  • Cadillac Escalade & Escalade ESV — 2015, 2026
  • Chevrolet Silverado 1500 — 2026
  • Chevrolet Suburban — 2015, 2017–2020
  • Chevrolet Suburban 1500 — 2026
  • Chevrolet Tahoe — 2016–2017, 2019, 2026
  • GMC Sierra 1500 — 2026
  • GMC Yukon — 2019–2020, 2026
  • GMC Yukon XL — 2018–2019, 2026

What you must do: Do not drive these vehicles. Contact your GM dealer immediately to ask about towing arrangements or a mobile repair option. Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the transfer case assembly at no charge. Enter your VIN at NHTSA.gov/recalls to confirm whether your specific vehicle is included.

This Week’s Full Automobile & Motorcycle Safety Recalls (May 26–June 1, 2026)

The following recalls were announced or have significant owner notification activity during the week of May 26, 2026:

Chrysler Pacifica & Voyager: Side Curtain Airbags May Fail to Protect Occupants in a Crash (NHTSA #26V189) — Owner Letters Now Mailing

This is the largest recall currently mailing letters this week, and every Chrysler Pacifica or Voyager owner in the 2022–2026 model year range should check their VIN immediately. Chrysler is recalling certain 2022–2026 Pacifica and Voyager vehicles because the right and left side curtain air bags may have insufficient pressure retention from improperly sealed seams, increasing the risk of ejection and injury during a crash. This recall involves 178,246 vehicles, with an estimated 30% of them having the above defect. ABC27

This is a serious safety defect. Side curtain airbags are your primary protection against ejection and head injury in a side-impact or rollover crash. A bag that loses pressure mid-deployment doesn’t protect you — it fails you at the moment you need it most. This recall expands two previous recalls (NHTSA #25V302 and #25V573) covering a similar issue. Vehicles previously repaired under a prior recall will need to have the new remedy completed. aol

Remedy: Dealers will replace the side curtain airbags, as necessary, at no charge. Contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Check your VIN at NHTSA.gov/recalls.

Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid: Pedestrian Warning Sound Fails in Reverse (NHTSA #26V203) — Owner Letters Mailing by May 30, 2026

Toyota is recalling certain 2023–2025 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid vehicles (73,528 units in total) because the vehicles may fail to make sufficient pedestrian warning sounds when in reverse, failing to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 141. Federal law requires hybrid and electric vehicles to emit minimum sound levels to protect pedestrians who cannot hear the otherwise-silent drivetrain, especially children, the visually impaired, and distracted walkers. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by May 30, 2026. Toyota dealers will perform a free software update on the pedestrian warning system. Kelley Blue BookYahoo!

Contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Reference recall numbers 26TB08 and 26TA08.

Mercedes-Benz GLE & GLS: Passenger Airbag May Not Deploy as Intended (NHTSA #26V199) — Owner Letters Mailed

Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling certain 2026 GLE 350 4MATIC, GLE 450 4MATIC, GLE 350, GLE 580 4MATIC, GLS 580 4MATIC, GLE 450 E 4MATIC, AMG GLE53 4MATIC, AMG GLS63 4MATIC, AMG GLE63 S 4MATIC, GLS 450 4MATIC, and GLS 600 4MATIC vehicles (932 units) because the passenger air bag fabric may have been manufactured incorrectly, which can cause the air bag not to deploy as intended. Owner notification letters were expected to be mailed May 22, 2026. CarPro

An airbag that doesn’t deploy in a frontal collision is no airbag at all. If you own any of these 2026 Mercedes-Benz models, call your dealer immediately. Remedy: Dealers will replace the passenger airbag module at no charge. Contact Mercedes-Benz at 1-800-367-6372.

Mercedes-Benz G580: Wrong Wheel Bolts Installed (NHTSA #26V198) — Owner Letters Mailed

Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling certain 2025 G580 vehicles — 3,734 units — because incorrect wheel bolts may have been installed during vehicle manufacturing. Owner notification letters were expected to be mailed May 22, 2026. Improperly sized wheel bolts can fail structurally, and in the worst case, a wheel can separate from the vehicle at speed. Remedy: Dealers will replace the wheel bolts at no charge. Contact Mercedes-Benz at 1-800-367-6372. Kelley Blue Book

Lucid Gravity: Second-Row Seat Belt Anchors May Have Insufficient Welds (NHTSA #26V–SR-26-04-00) — Owner Letters Mailed

Lucid USA is recalling certain 2025–2026 Gravity vehicles (4,476 units) because the lap belt anchor brackets on the second-row seats may have insufficient welds, which can cause bracket failure, failing to comply with FMVSS 207 and 210. Owner notification letters were expected to be mailed May 22, 2026. A seat belt anchor that fails in a crash can render the entire restraint system useless. Remedy: Lucid will inspect and repair or replace the seats at no charge. Contact Lucid at 1-888-995-8243, reference recall SR-26-04-00. Kelley Blue Book

Volkswagen Jetta & Taos: Instrument Panel May Fail to Display Warning Lights or Gauges (NHTSA, VW #90Z5)

Volkswagen is recalling certain 2025 Jetta and Taos vehicles (75,323 units) because the instrument panel may fail to display warning lights or gauges, failing to comply with FMVSS 101. Owner notification letters were expected to be mailed May 22, 2026. Without a functioning instrument panel, drivers have no warning of critical conditions like overheating, low oil pressure, or brake failure. Remedy: Dealers will update the instrument panel software and replace the panel as needed, at no charge. Contact Volkswagen at 1-800-893-5298, reference recall 90Z5. Kelley Blue Book

Yamaha TW200 Motorcycle: Speedometer Failure / “Do Not Ride” Warning (NHTSA #26V197)

Yamaha Motor Corporation USA has issued a “Do Not Ride” warning for the 2026 Yamaha TW200 due to speedometer failure. Riding without a functioning speedometer makes it impossible to maintain legal speeds or respond to speed-related warnings, and may constitute a vehicle safety defect under federal standards. Contact your Yamaha dealer immediately and check your VIN at NHTSA.gov/recalls. Franklin County Free Press

Honda CB1000SP: Fuel Hose May Disconnect & Leak (NHTSA #26V194)

American Honda Motor Co. is recalling 2025 Honda CB1000SP motorcycles because the fuel hose may disconnect and leak fuel. A fuel leak on a hot engine creates a direct fire hazard. If you own one of these motorcycles, stop riding it and contact your Honda dealer. Contact Honda Powersports Customer Relations or call the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236. Franklin County Free Press

Aston Martin DBX & DBX707: Rear Suspension Arm May Crack or Shear (NHTSA, AM #RA-41-2086)

Aston Martin is recalling certain 2021–2026 DBX and 2023–2026 DBX707 vehicles (3,937 units) because the pin for the torque reaction link may slide out of the rear lower suspension arm, causing the rear lower suspension arm casting to crack or shear. A failed rear suspension arm can cause sudden, unpredictable loss of vehicle control. Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace affected components at no charge. Contact Aston Martin at 1-888-923-9988. Kelley Blue Book

Gulf States Toyota 4Runner: Incorrect Load Carrying Capacity Label (NHTSA #26R1)

Gulf States Toyota is recalling certain 2026 4Runner vehicles because the load carrying capacity modification label states the incorrect load carrying capacity, failing to comply with FMVSS 110. Owner notification letters are scheduled to be mailed June 22, 2026. Overloading a vehicle based on inaccurate label information can cause tire failure, instability, and loss of control. Remedy: GST will mail a corrected label to owners at no charge. Contact Gulf States Toyota at 1-800-444-1074, reference recall 26R1. Kelley Blue Book

2026 Nissan LEAF: High-Voltage Battery May Short-Circuit — “Park Outside, Do Not Charge” Warning (NHTSA #R25F1)

Nissan is recalling certain 2026 LEAF vehicles (51 units) because the high-voltage battery may have internal damage that can cause a short circuit within the battery module. Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures and should not charge their vehicles until the remedy is completed. Dealers will replace the battery modules or the battery at no charge, with a final remedy anticipated in July 2026. Kelley Blue Book

While the affected population is small, this is a “Park Outside” recall, which means the fire risk is real. Contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261, reference recall R25F1.

How to Check & Act on a Recall: Three Simple Steps

  1. Look up your VIN. Go to NHTSA.gov/recalls and enter your 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number. You’ll see any open recalls for your specific vehicle within seconds.
  2. Schedule the free repair. Contact your authorized dealer immediately. All recall repairs are legally required to be performed at no cost to you, regardless of your vehicle’s age or whether you’re the original owner.
  3. Document everything. Keep records of all recall-related communications, appointment dates, and completed repair confirmations. If a defect later causes an accident, this documentation can be critical to your legal claim.

Important: Do not wait for a mailed notice, especially for recalls carrying “Do Not Drive” or “Do Not Ride” warnings. NHTSA mailing schedules are estimates, and parts availability or postal delays mean your letter might arrive weeks after a recall is announced. The VIN tool gives you the information right now.

Were You Hurt by a Defective Vehicle?

Recalls are issued to prevent harm, but they only work if owners take action — and manufacturers don’t always make that easy. At Sam & Ash Injury Law, we represent clients who were seriously injured because a vehicle defect the manufacturer knew about wasn’t fixed in time. If you or a loved one has been hurt in an accident involving a recalled or defective vehicle, you may have a claim not just against another driver, but against the automaker itself.

As experienced car accident attorneys serving Las Vegas, Reno, and Southern California, we fight aggressively for the compensation our clients deserve — covering medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and more — while handling every detail with the care and respect your family deserves.
