This Week’s Automobile & Motorcycle Safety Recalls (April 21–27, 2026)

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration continues to announce important safety recalls that affect vehicles and motorcycles commonly driven across Las Vegas, Reno, and Southern California. Here are the key recalls you should know about this week:

  • Ford F-150 Pickup Trucks (Massive Recall – Nearly 1.4 Million Vehicles): Certain 2014–2017 Ford F-150 models equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission may experience unexpected downshifts into a lower gear. This issue can cause sudden deceleration, rear tire lockup, and loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash. Ford has reports of related warranty claims, injuries, and at least one crash. Dealers will update the powertrain control module software at no cost. Interim owner notification letters are expected to begin mailing on or around April 27, 2026, with final repairs anticipated in July.
  • Ram Pickup Trucks (2025–2026 Models): Chrysler (Stellantis) is recalling certain 2025–2026 Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 pickup and cab chassis models due to potential issues with the instrument panel cluster (dashboard display) or steering column control module. These defects may cause the display to become inoperative or lead to loss of electronic stability control, reducing the driver’s ability to maintain control in emergency situations. Software updates or module replacements will be performed free of charge. Owner notifications are expected in late May 2026.
  • Harley-Davidson Softail Motorcycles (2025–2026 Models): Harley-Davidson is recalling approximately 16,994 Softail motorcycles, including certain FLHC Heritage Classic, FXBB Street Bob, FXLRS Low Rider S, and FXLRST Low Rider ST models. The rear brake line may rub against the Body Control Module, potentially causing a leak and complete loss of rear brakes. This significantly increases crash risk for motorcycle riders. Dealers will install a revised BCM caddy and related hardware, inspect the brake line, and perform any necessary repairs at no cost. Owner notification letters are expected to begin mailing around May 18, 2026.
  • Additional Recalls Noted This Period: Smaller campaigns were also announced for certain recreational vehicles (RVs) and commercial vehicles, including issues with incorrect occupant labels, missing side reflectors, and other compliance matters. While these affect fewer passenger vehicles on local roads, owners of affected models should still verify their VIN promptly.

These recalls highlight the importance of staying vigilant, especially for popular trucks and motorcycles frequently seen on Nevada and California highways. Even minor defects can lead to serious accidents when combined with heavy traffic, desert heat, or mountain driving conditions common in our region.

How to Check if Your Vehicle or Motorcycle Is Affected The fastest and most reliable way is to visit the official NHTSA Recalls website at www.nhtsa.gov/recalls and enter your 17-character Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). You can also search by make, model, and year. If a recall applies to your vehicle, contact your local dealer or manufacturer customer service immediately—repairs are always free under federal law. Many fixes involve simple software updates, while others may require parts replacement.

Automobile safety recalls exist to protect drivers and passengers from serious defects that manufacturers and regulators have identified. By staying up to date with our weekly vehicle safety recalls summary, you take a simple but powerful step toward keeping your loved ones safe on the roads of Las Vegas, Reno, and Southern California.
